Small class sizes and dedicated teaching assistants

Storefront Academy classes are small, and all classes in our youngest grades have a lead teacher and an assistant teacher, to help facilitate small group work and individual attention for all students.

Professional development opportunities

Storefront Academy teachers receive more than 200 hours of targeted professional development every year on dedicated professional development days, as well as at weekly professional development sessions.

Storefront Academy's model fosters student academic and emotional growth, and is centered on ensuring that students become critical thinkers, not just good test takers.

Storefront Academy's model places equal emphasis on academic rigor and social emotional wellness, and provides the staff resources to help teachers meet the needs of students who are struggling in either of these areas. This includes a full-time social worker, mentors, individual volunteers and other targeted social and emotional interventions.

Administration

Storefront Academy's Finance, Human Resources, Operations, Development and Communications teams are essential to the day-to-day operations of Storefront Academy Harlem and Storefront Academy South Bronx, managing four properties, human resources for more than 60 employees, and financial reporting and fundraising for a total budget of over $5M.
