Annual Spring Gala Celebrates Alumni, Longtime Supporters

Storefront Academy Harlem held its annual spring gala on Thursday, May 18th at the Mandarin Oriental New York. The gala awarded two longtime and dedicated partners of the school with the inaugural Christine LaSala and        Michael Stubbs Cornerstone Award and the Core Values Award. FOX 5 NY anchor Dari Alexander was master of ceremonies and Robbie Gordy of Christie’s was the evening’s auctioneer.
Fiduciary Trust Company International received the inaugural Cornerstone Award in recognition of its three-decade long partnership with the school. John M. Dowd, chief executive officer of Fiduciary Trust, and Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager Bibi Conrad accepted the award on the firm’s behalf.

   “For over 50 years Storefront Academy has had a profound impact on the education of our City’s children who would otherwise face significant obstacles in their path to intellectual advancement,” said John M. Dowd, chief    executive officer of Fiduciary Trust, in a statement. “In our partnership, we hope to encourage more dialogue around childhood literacy and spark fresh ideas about how resources, time and leadership can transform people’s lives for the better. We are humbled to receive this award and look forward to continuing to partner with Storefront.”

   The inaugural Core Values Award was presented to Anne-Marie Embiricos, a longtime volunteer and supporter.  The Core Values Award recognized Anne-Marie as a dedicated individual within Storefront Academy’s community, who has chosen to give her time and her resources to the children of Harlem, and whose unselfish and dedicated service sets an example for others.The award was presented to Ms. Embiricos by Storefront Academy Harlem’s first grade teacher, who spoke first-hand of Ms. Embiricos’ three years as a volunteer in Storefront Academy’s first grade class.

   The evening also celebrated Storefront Academy’s alumni successes with a film featuring a number of its outstanding graduates. The film explored how the strong foundation and support offered at Storefront Academy propel students for success in high school and beyond. Storefront Academy’s alumni base had a strong showing at the gala as a number of them were in attendance and took part in the celebration.
